In the Russian mining, construction equipment and oil and gas production industries, hydraulic hoses are one of the most frequently worn components, resulting in equipment downtime. Industry data shows that more than 60% of premature hose failures are not due to product quality issues, but due to poor selection and maintenance. Considering the extreme cold, heavy loads and aggressive environments in Russia, the following measures can effectively extend the life of hoses by 2-3 times.
1. When choosing a nominal pressure, the safety factor must be taken into account.
Don't just match the pressure to the equipment's operating pressure rating; it is necessary to provide a safety margin of at least 1.25 times the peak pressure of the system. For heavy-duty drilling rigs and high-frequency impact equipment, it is recommended to use Parker or Manuli laminated steel wire hoses, which have longer impulse fatigue life and can reduce the risk of sudden hose rupture.
2. The use of hoses designed for normal temperatures in extremely low temperatures is prohibited.
In Siberia and the Far East, winter temperatures can reach -40°C, making conventional nitrile rubber hoses prone to hardening and cracking. In extreme cold mining environments, Parker and Manuli low temperature hoses are preferred due to their consistent low temperature strength and suitability for extended periods of cold service.
3.Select the hose model according to the type of working environment.
To work in corrosive environments such as oil and gas containing sulfur, Senpei oil-resistant and corrosion-resistant rubber hoses are selected to avoid swelling and aging of the inner rubber layer; Shuangwei wear-resistant industrial hoses are used to transport sand, gravel, mud and powders, which have excellent impact resistance and wear resistance.
4.Standardize installation and control bending radius.
An insufficient hose bend radius will significantly reduce its service life, and the risk increases even more in cold temperatures. Installation must strictly comply with the manufacturer's standards, providing sufficient expansion and contraction margins under pressure to reduce damage caused by stress concentrations.
5.Standard crimping ensures tight seal.
Pipe leaks and disconnected connectors are often caused by substandard crimping and incompatible fittings. Properly manufactured hose connections require the use of original connectors crimped to standard specifications, and each hose is pressure tested before leaving the factory to ensure superior sealing.
6.Provide proper external protection when using outdoors.
Russian quarries experience strong ultraviolet radiation and frequent sandstorms, which accelerate the aging of the outer rubber layer of hoses. For outdoor piping installations, Senpei and Eaton ozone-resistant hoses are preferred and can be equipped with protective springs and wear-resistant jackets to slow wear and tear on the outer layer.
7.Carry out regular inspections to prevent products from exceeding their service life.
High pressure hoses have a fixed fatigue life; a consistent appearance does not guarantee safe operation. It is recommended to implement a monthly inspection mechanism, focusing on identifying potential hazards such as bulges, oil leaks, exposed steel wires and loose connections, and promptly replacing hoses to prevent downtime.
